Twenty-six new business locations opened under multi-location operators in Chicago during the two weeks ending October 23, 2026, according to BizPulse's license tracking. That's up from 24 in the prior two weeks (September 26 to October 9, 2026), and the Near West Side accounted for 6 of the 26.
Key stats — two weeks ending October 23, 2026:
- 26 new-location licenses from expanding operators citywide, versus 24 in the two weeks ending October 9, 2026
- 22 distinct operators across 15 Chicago neighborhoods
- Near West Side led with 6 new locations; Lincoln Square and Near North Side followed with 3 each
- Restaurants made up 8 of the 26; transportation and parking operators added 5
Which Chicago Businesses Are Expanding Right Now?
BizPulse tracked 22 distinct operators opening additional locations between October 10 and October 23, 2026. Restaurants were the biggest group at 8 locations. Colectivo Coffee Roasters opened at 2032 W Roscoe St in North Center on October 15, and Mendocino Farms was licensed at 847 W Fulton Market on October 23. BizPulse's license database shows 21 licenses on the Colectivo account and 5 on Mendocino's.
The second-largest group surprised us: transportation and parking. BizPulse data shows 5 new locations from 4 operators in the Loop, Near North Side, and Near West Side, including a new Laz Parking license at 11 S La Salle St in the Loop issued October 21, 2026. That operator already holds 286 licenses on its account. These are repeat buyers with procurement habits, not first-time shops.
So what: Operators with a track record buy faster. A restaurant group with 21 licenses already has a vendor list for POS and cleaning; your job is getting on it before the next opening, not selling from scratch.
Which Expanders Are Also Pulling Permits?
Only one of the 26 locations also shows a building permit at the same address since August 1, 2026. One Stop Nails & Spa was licensed at 8145 S Cottage Grove Ave in Chatham on October 21, 2026. According to BizPulse's permit tracking, the address carries a $150,000 renovation permit issued September 23, 2026 for interior alterations of a former flower shop. The operator now has 3 licenses on its account.
That's the pattern to watch: permit first, license four weeks later. The other 25 locations had no permit on file, which usually means they're taking over finished space. Think signage swaps, POS installs, security, and cleaning contracts rather than construction trades.
So what: Fit-out vendors should look at the permit, not the license. Everyone else should treat the license date as day one of the buying window. What Should B2B Sellers Do With This List?
Start with the Near West Side. Six expansions in two weeks from a single neighborhood is a walkable route, and Fulton Market and Randolph Street are already on it. Then work the restaurant and parking operators, who license new locations in batches.
You can filter expanding operators on BizPulse search and see upcoming openings on the opening soon page. The underlying filings are public on the City of Chicago Business Licenses dataset.
Bottom line: BizPulse counted 26 expanding-operator locations in Chicago in the two weeks ending October 23, 2026, led by the Near West Side; call the operators, not the storefronts.
